Village of Park Forest Sustainability Plan
Village of Park Forest, IL
Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP)
The Village of Park Forest was originally designed so that residents and visitors could walk to amenities like stores, schools, and parks. Although the village was ahead of the curve for achieving sustainability, it felt that there was still some room for improvement. The village, in conjunction with CMAP and its local technical assistance (LTA) program, decided to undertake a sustainability planning process to ensure that it continued to be amongst the leading sustainable communities in the Chicago region.
As many residents were unable or not interested in participating in a face-to-face discussion about the plan and which particular strategies the village should adopt, MetroQuest was utilized to enable residents to participate remotely. The result was a significantly larger number of residents were able to participate and provide input on the plan, meaning that the plan was well aligned with village thinking and was therefore easily adopted by council.
The project was awarded Best Sustainability Plan by the Illinois Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA-IL).
